I need to start trusting my Mommy Premonitions a bit more. You know that feeling you get right before something bad is going to happen? If you listen to that feeling, then the bad thing might be averted. However, if you don’t listen to the feeling, you may live to regret it. Let’s just say that I didn’t listen to that feeling today.
As we have stated in previous posts, Katie is pretty rough around the edges still. She pushes other kids, tortures her sister, and likes to throw things. She has a pretty good arm that someday will entice softball coaches from the big universities all over the country. Until then, Mommy has to deal with the aftermath of things that arm does.
So, we went to Aunt Seri’s house today to hang out with the cousins. When we walked in, I saw a gorgeous glass vase of fresh flowers sitting in the middle of the coffee table. I had this feeling fill my being that the vase was in trouble if we didn’t move it. I was quickly distracted from that feeling with Little Monster (Rosa) tugging at my pant leg for attention.
Not even a minute later, I saw it happen. Katie reached for the remote control and with the same arm, she threw it with all of her might across the room. Only, the remote never did make it across the room. In its path was the lovely glass vase. The remote somehow broke the vase in half and tiny bits of glass flew in all directions around the room. I stood there in stunned silence. In fact, everyone in the room stood (well, Little Monster sat) in silence as we all took in what happened.
Then, everything began to move quickly. Katie looked stunned but somehow proud of herself at the same time as I quickly scooped her up and headed for time out. Alden sat on the chair proclaiming, “That was so scary, Momma!” and Max ran to gleefully watch Katie as she stood in timeout, happy that he hadn’t been the one to break the vase. Rosa sucked her thumb, and Mommy sighed.
Oh Katie, Katie, Katie. That was the first *strike* she has ever thrown. Hopefully, she can wait to throw more until she signs up for softball someday!
***Below is a picture of the cleanup. It doesn't truly show you how bad it was because we had already picked up most of the glass before that. But you get the point:
