Status Report

I think it is time to post a status report on how Squirmy and Bean are doing these days.

Let's start off with Squirmy:

*  We are still dealing with sleep issues with Katie.  Some nights we think we have found the magic formula, and the next, it all falls apart.  She often takes 1-2 hours to fall asleep and will hop and leap all over the bed while making loud noises for almost that entire time.  Because of a miracle CD called Super Sleep that our OT gave us, she is not waking up in the middle of the night (Hallelujah!).  She is waking up between 5 and 6 in the morning bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  Unfortunately, Momma is not so bright-eyed and rearing to go at that time in the morning.  We have tried swaddling (which works a lot of the time - we just take her out of the swaddle once she falls asleep), deep pressure, brushing/massage before bed, restraints, sitting with her, laying next to her...ugh.  We are heading to the doctor's tomorrow, so we are going to talk about options.  We have heard about Melatonin.  Has anyone had experience with this?
*  Good news!  Her language is taking off.  We can't even keep track of how many words she says.  I'm guessing close to 100.  She is also putting some words together.  I love her first big sentence:  "I have poo-poo!"  The speech therapist is thrilled with her progress.

*  She is beginning to randomnly fall less.  This is great because I always worried that she was going to seriously hurt herself.  She is also pushing kids less which is wonderful for playdates!  We think this is because she is becoming more aware of her body due to the brushing and compressions and the occupational therapy.

*  Finally, she is really thriving.  She is eating well, gaining weight, and seems so happy.  She smiles a lot now.  I think she truly knows she is loved and safe.

Rosa As She Swings for the First Time
Time for the Bean:

* Rosa is almost standing without assistance.  The PT and I are working hard with her on foot position and strengthening her core.  It seems to be working so far because she is standing up straighter, her feet aren't as pronated, and she is starting to cruise more!

* She is drinking from a straw sippy cup!  It all began on Saturday when I was bribing her to do her PT exercises with a sippy because she has started to go after Katie's sippies.  She grabbed it and just started sipping away!  She is so proud of herself.

* She has started to talk.  She says Momma, Dadda, Up, Good Job, and babbles like crazy.  Before we know it, she is going to take off with talking!

Rosa Looks Scary in the Night Cam at 3 am!

* Rosa started waking up in the middle of the night again.  We started using Katie's magical sleep CD with her though, and she is sleeping through the night again!

             -----------------------
As we are settling into parenthood, we are starting to gain confidence.  We definitely have our down days at times, but the up days outnumber them.  God continues to give us strength and confidence we don't have ourselves.  The only thing I can do sometimes is pray for God to get me through a day or even a moment.  Luckily, my God is faithful and is always there.

  1. Glad to hear things are going well. My nephew has been using melatonin since he was about 3. It was recommended to them by their pediatrician and seems to help him. Where did you get the CD you guys are using? Angelica still does not sleep through the night. She also still rocks, hums, babbles before going to sleep but not near as long as Katie. Her therapists assure us they are just self soothing techniques and someday (hopefully!!) she will outgrow it. She used to do it so hard she would bang her head on the floor. 5 years later we are so used to it we barely notice it.
