I’m a little late writing this, but late is better than never, right? (Tell that to everyone we still owe thank you notes to! *sigh*)
Katie’s third birthday was an amazing success.

On her actual birthday, July 21st, we sang “Happy Birthday” about a million times, took her to lunch with Abuela and Pop Pop, took her out for ice cream, and gave her a cool cozy coupe car for a present. She had a blast the whole day and enjoyed singing “Apple ju du” (Happy Birthday) the whole day.

The following Saturday, we had a small family party. We decided to do that in order to keep her from being overwhelmed. It ended up being the perfect number of adults and kids, and she loved being the center of attention in her cute little Colombian-colored tutu and matching shirt. She did cry when we sang Happy Birthday, but that was only because she wanted to blow out the candle and didn’t want to wait!

The theme for the party was “Colombian flag colors.” We had the house decorated with streamers in red, blue, and yellow, party bags in the same colors, and even the plates and silverware matched the theme. I thought about dying the food in those colors, but decided that would be kind of weird.
Although Katie probably won’t remember that day when she gets older, it was a very special day. It was her first real birthday party, and she was surrounded by people who love her to pieces. You could tell that she felt the love as she giggled and ran around like crazy.
We are truly blessed to have Katie as our daughter. It’s hard to believe that she is three already, so I am trying to enjoy each second of every day with her knowing that time is fleeting and will go by so fast.
