After being home for almost three weeks, we have learned a few things about our girls:
1) Rosa has hired a DJ for her crib - at least it seems that way. She is so proud of herself that she can pull herself up to a standing position, so she does it often and then does a happy dance as she grips the top of the bar on the crib. The only problem is when she does this at 2 in the morning because her sister woke her up.
2) Katie is obsessed - no, wait - OBSESSED with her baby doll that Abuela (Grandma) gave her. She tucks Baby into bed at night, gives her a goodnight kiss, wakes Baby up as soon as she gets up in the morning, feeds Baby breakfast, cries when Baby falls to the ground, puts Baby into the bouncy seat and bounces her, and cries hysterically when Mommy takes Baby to the doctor to get new batteries. It's really adorable.
3) Music is a love of both of my girls. Katie got to shake rattles today at story/song time at the library today, and she was having the time of her life! Rosa likes to make noise by banging on everything. Too funny. I want to get them into music classes, but everything is so ridiculously expensive. I might just buy some musical instruments and create my own music class! Haha.
4) Teething STINKS. My little happy Rosa has been in so much pain the last few days especially, but she has triumphed, and that meanie 5th tooth has poked its way through! There is a 6th one on its way and two molars close behind. Fun times ahead in the Hannan household. Thank goodness for popsicles, ibuprofen, teething gel, and cold wash cloths!
5) The newest version of Willy Wonka gets funnier each time we watch it. "Good morning sunshine. The Earth says HELLO!" Haha..Ok, I digress - back to things we have learned.
6) Do not by any means go into their room at night unless they are crying or screaming. If they are making noises or if Rosa is dancing to her DJ tunes, do NOT go in. It will only make things worse. We learned this over the past two nights. Last night, they were up for FIVE hours wide awake.
7) Story time is not the best place to take a baby AND a toddler at the same time when they are learning new words and sounds. Barnes and Noble was filled with Katie saying "Abuela" over and over and Rosa going,"Good, good, good - Mamamama - Dadadadadad" as the poor reader tried to perform the book that he had obviously taken the time to memorize and perform so wonderfully. Unfortunately, his performance wasn't enough to distract them from their newfound skills.
8) If someone says to me, "Wow...I would never have believed that you have only been a mom of two for a few weeks. You seem like a natural," I CRINGE. Why? Because each time this has been said, my daughters manage to make that person regret ever saying it. Spit will fly. Kids will be pushed. Screaming will commence. Mommy will hide her face and walk her children sheepishly from storytime. "Yeah, I've only been a mom for a few weeks."
9) You can buy all of the toys you want, but your children will still want to play with the TV remote, the computer cord, or Mommy's underthings *sigh*
10) Being a mom is something I just love. Yes, there are sleepless nights, food all over my clothes after feeding them a meal, and endless hours of talking in short sentences to improve their vocabulary. BUT I love it. I love the time I have with the girls and am so grateful for it. I am so thankful that God has given me this time with them, and I am doing my best to make the most of it for their benefit.
11) If I didn't have God, I wouldn't be able to do this. There are days where I pray for His patience and strength to get through the day because I just don't have it. He gives me the strength and the patience. He is there whenever I need Him. He is my strength when I am weak. With Him, I can do all things. I just pray each day that I can glorify God in how I raise these girls, how I treat them, how I talk to them, and how I teach them.
