This week has been one that will probably not go down in the books, except for this blog.
Late last week, I started to come down with what I thought was a minor cold. However, on Monday, I woke up, and it wasn't minor anymore. Not only that? Katie and Rosa were both hacking - great. And Tim is just about out of days to take off, so that makes it even more fun.
Some things I learned during the last few days of haziness:
1) Kids are amazing at coming up with ways to entertain themselves while their sick mother lies in misery on the couch just trying to survive. Pretty soon they will be running around with war paint on their faces!
2) Somehow, the kids know you are in a weak state, and they take advantage of that time to misbehave even more, knowing full well you don't have the energy for any type of discipline. I have managed to muster a few "Katie - try not to behead your sister OR Rosa - Mo doesn't like it when you throw puzzles at her"
3) Sorry moms who don't let their kids watch TV - TV is your best friend when the kids and you are sick. They don't have as much energy, so my two toddlers who normally don't stop moving will actually sit for an hour to watch Elmo bounce around and giggle on the screen. Heck, they even sit for soap operas in that state! And we all know General Hospital is the best.
4) It is OK not to work on letters or numbers or anything educational for a couple of days. They will live. And it won't be the end of their educational career if "W goes Wuh, wuh, wuh - like Waffles" isn't said to them for a bit.
5) I have an amazing husband. He took the kids each night and ordered me upstairs to watch TV and sip on my Nyquil cocktail. I truly believe I am starting to feel better earlier because of him. Now if he just wasn't getting sick, things would be ok. But indeed - I hear congestion...*sigh*
6) When I am sick, I get cabin fever and get BORED. When I get bored, I do annoying things (hmm..similar to my toddlers) like make everyone vote for Rosa's picture on the Parents website. By the way, you can vote each day until Sunday at this website address (don't forget to fill in the confirmation question) - http://photos.parents.com/category/vote/photo/1103955 Yes, I am truly annoying my friends with asking them each day to vote. But my reward? Rosa keeps moving closer to #1! She started out in the 100's, was 52 yesterday, and is ranked 32nd today!
7) Did I mention that I can be downright annoying when I am sick? See #6 if you don't believe me.
Yep, being sick for the first time at the same time my toddlers are sick, has definitely been a learning experience that I don't prefer to repeat for awhile. At least they are building up immunity! Oh yeah, did I mention Rosa started teething again tonight? Bring it!
