Exiting the Plan

For those of you out there who know us personally, you know that Tim and I are what you would call planners.  Yep, we have attempted to plan everything in our lives, down to the exact minute.  Our Type A OCD personalities just kind of make us that way.  God decided to have a little fun with that and put us through the adoption process.  No big deal we thought.  Well, paperwork doesn't always come back when you PLAN it to come back.  Countries change adoption travel rules, causing you to move to another country to adopt instead.  Sometimes you plan on getting ONE child at a time, and well?  Nah, God thinks two is better for you!  Oh, and to top it all off, God thought it might be amusing to bless us with kids a year earlier than we expected.

So here we are, ready to throw God some TUMS to cure his tummy ache from giggling so much.  However, His laughter is that of a joyful parent.  He always knew what was best for us.  We thought we knew what was best at times, but our best sometimes was not always what God's best is which is ALWAYS better than what we can imagine.  He has definitely shown us that throughout this whole process.

So keeping that in mind, we are trying to take a deep breath, do what we have to do, and just let God do his wonders.  We know that He will guide us in the right direction and take care of us throughout all of this.  Now I just need Him to help me figure out what the best family vehicle to buy is:  Toyota Sienna?  Honda Odyssey?  an SUV?  Or better yet, what in the world to register for when you are getting a 2 1/2 year old and a one year old?  Xanex, perhaps? :)

  2. My husband and I both laughed reading this post, because its so much how I am. He just tells me not to dwell on things now, and we will deal with everything once the time comes. So I know how you feel. Congrats on your referral! 2 little girls, how amazing! Many blessings for your time in Colombia, and we look forward to following you on your journey.

  3. Hi Ginny,
Congrats again on your referral for your precious ninos! I just want to weigh in with you on the car debate you have going on.

First off, I am NOT a mini-van type of mamí. Currently we have a Nissan Pathfinder SUV. I have 1 daughter (3 years old) and my mom that lives with us. It is pretty comfortable for us in that car right now. But, as we await the referral of our second little one we will definitely have to go the mini-van route because we can not expect abuelita to climb into the third row seat in the SUV every time we go out together as a family which is VERY often (almost daily?). So our next car (summer 2011) will definitely be a mini-van. I've heard from a lot of different people that the Honda Odyssey is a MUST see. But, I test drove a Toyota and it was awesome. Such a great dilemma to have going on right now as you prepare for your 2 little blessings.

  4. Congratulations!!! I am very excited for you and am happy to see more Colombian children coming to our great city. Not sure if you remember, but we adopted 3 siblings in 2007. Look forward to following your blog as you travel to meet your beautiful children.

  5. Carrie - I will definitely be asking questions about raising little ones at some point, so I will remember you posted that. Thanks a bunch!

Haley - It's funny how we can try and try to do what WE think is best, and if we would just LET GO and LET GOD, things could go so much more smoothly!

Debi - I know what you mean about not being the minivan type because we are NOT at ALL that kind of family. But sometimes necessity wears you down a bit, and being the overpacker that I am, I have a feeling we will need a minivan to accomodate me overpacking not only my bags, but my girls' as well. My poor husband...hehe!

Donna - Was that REALLY 2007?!?!?! Wow, it seems like just yesterday. Amazing how time flies.
