Baby Steps

Sisters!

Today was a good day.  The girls woke up around 5:30..ugh, but they woke up bright and happy.  We had a lot of chill time today, and honestly, it was great for our family.

We were supposed to have our ICBF interview at 10 this morning, and after waiting in the lobby with our translator for the ICBF person to come, we were informed that the meeting would be at 2pm.  Later on, we were told that our meeting was rescheduled for Monday but that it wouldn't delay our paperwork at all.  I am skeptical, but God's timing is perfect - so we'll just wait and see what happens.

Meanwhile, the girls are eating like horses.  Rosa is downing over 5 bottles a day with formula and rice cereal, eating 6 jars of baby food, and pooping like a champ.  In fact, Katie and Rosa both managed to "let loose" 4 times EACH today!  Wew...our room smells yummy right now.  We could really use a Diaper Genie right now.

Poopy Diaper #2 of 4 today! (This one was in the middle of a feeding that was already messy)

The girls had a lot more energy today, and their personalities were really coming out.  Rosa LOVES to smile and loves it when we sing and read to her.  Oh yeah, and she LOVES to eat.  Katie loves to run, play with her musical giraffe, and clean.  Yep - I've got myself a little cleaner. She puts everything away without being asked and takes the wipes and cleans the table in our room. Too cute.

Went to the park tonight and had hamburgers.  I know - some of you are gasping.  Yep - full beef hamburgers.  Honestly, they have a picture menu, and all we have to do is point and say how many we want.  It works out great!  They have this great mustard that is just yummy.  We have to order 3 hamburgers with fries now because Katie downs an entire one by herself.  She is a machine!  Our favorite time in the park tonight was when we ran across a group of Colombian musicians playing the most wonderful music.  A couple in the audience even got up and danced Colombian style.  Beautiful!  Of course, we forgot our camera and Flip tonight, so we couldn't get any of it on tape.  Instead, we danced with the girls until Katie fell asleep in TIM'S arms and Rosa decided to let loose in her diaper one more time. Then it was back to the hotel!  Early bedtime tonight, so we are worried about what time they will get up.

Did laundry in the bathtub again tonight.  We sent it away one day this week, and the laundry came back with an 80 dollar bill for the clothes we sent out.  Eek!  Therefore, washing clothes in the tub it is!  We might need to replace our pants with new ones when we get back because I just don't see some of these stains coming out even though we brought stain sticks with us and laundry soap.  Oh well - worth it not to spend 80 dollars twice a week!  We might send a few of the girls' outfits away though because they have so few clothes.  I'm sewing as quickly as I can to give them more options, but Rosa is so tiny.

Tomorrow is our family trip to the mall to get Rosa some more clothes and to just SHOP.  We are going to try Rosa out in the stroller and see how it goes.  We tried to put Katie in the stroller today, but she screamed bloody murder.  This is going to be SO much when we get back to the States and have to put them in carseats!  For those of you who don't know, the kids here ride freely in the backseat.  The only protection they have is Mom and Dad holding them, and we don't even have seatbelts to wear when riding in the taxis!  Definitely a different world down here.

Thank you for continuing to keep us in your prayers.  We are doing okay down here but need all of the prayer support we can get, especially with little Katie.  She is proving to be a tough little one to transition, but she is such a blessing, and we know that God is going to do wonders in her life.  We love both of them to pieces!

  1. Sounds like things are going well and your adjusting to being a family of 4. We didn't have an actual meeting time set up for our ICBF meeting and when we asked about it..they said you had it the day she stopped by to check on you. We were in the pool and she was just standing on the side. It was so informal we didn't even realize it happened. We also did not have a meeting before getting Angelica (which of course now we think was intentional). Have you found the ice cream place at the park (it was next to a internet cafe) it was YUMMY!!! Hope you guys get to see the sloth too. Laundry is ridiculous. We had asked around for a do it yourself place but had no luck. Angelica hated the stroller but had no problem with a car seat. She did, however, hate being in a cart at the store. one of the highlights of Brian's trip was the taxi rides. To be 5 and not have to be in a booster seat was a big deal and the rides were usually very adventurous. Love your updates..wish we were there!! Your babies are so cute and sweet.

  2. Hi my name is Nicole and I've loved following your blog. Congratulations on the girls! About laundry... I remembering reading on the Colombian Adoption yahoo group that someone said something about asking their guide's wife or the wife of someone at their Adoption House if she would do their laundry and it was 1/10 of the price. Just a thought. Good Luck!

  3. Your daughters are just adorable! Our 2 year old hated the stroller (he only wanted to push it), but by the time we got home he loved it and none of them had an issue with the carseat.

Sounds like things are going just as they should. A little tough for the girls to transition, a little hard to be away from home, but so exciting to meet your children and get to spend time just getting to know each other. Try to enjoy your time now, because once you return home and get back to work, cooking, cleaning, and just daily life you will long for the days you are having now.

Thanks for letting us follow along.

  4. Ginny and Tim,
I've followed your "journey" and am in awe of your experiences. What a privilege to see the photos and read your narrative. More than ever, I am convinced that God had something special in mind when he picked you as Rosa and Katie's parents! Welcome back to the States. Love to you all. Nancy Junker
