On Saturday, Tim and I walked into the most amazing baby shower ever. What a time of celebration! So many people were there to celebrate our daughters, and we were amazed at their generosity. So many adoption books talk about how your family and friends might not accept what you are doing when you adopt and might not accept your adopted children. I have no worries about that. Everyone has shown so much love towards these girls already, and they aren't even in our home yet!
I wish that there was a way for everyone reading this to have seen this shower. It was unbelievable. My cousin decorated it like a butterfly sanctuary. I don't even know how to begin to describe it, and pictures just don't do it justice. Down the ceiling, in the middle of the room, she shredded paper of all different shades of green and hung it so that is looked like a mass of grass hanging from the ceiling. She even shredded copies of adoption paperwork and had it hanging in with the greens in the grass. From other parts, she hung strings of butterflies hanging over "trees" of sticks that she had perfectly arranged. Goodness...this is so hard to explain because I feel like I'm just not doing Seri justice! I will just have to post pictures! Let's just say that Seri should either work for Martha Stewart or just create her own company that rivals Martha Stewart.
Then there was the food. Tim's mom headed that up, and she had so much of it! People also brought side dishes that were so delicious - homemade hummus, scalloped potatoes, white pizza dip...yum. NO ONE went hungry at that shower. No one.
All of the little details were just so incredible. They had a raffle for Steeler tickets for next season that my father-in-law graciously donated. Seri created a money tree, and people clipped money to it when they entered the raffle. People were so generous that we were able to buy our stroller with the money from the raffle! Wow!
Of course, there was a gorgeous cake. It had pretty pink butterflies hanging off of the sides and cute curly antennaes escaping out of the top. And it was a carrot cake - one of my favorites!
Pete also created a video montage of pictures and words that made me cry - in a good way, of course!
I am so grateful to all of my friends who helped set up and do things for the shower. I truly have an amazing group of friends. How could anyone be anymore blessed? They helped until the wee hours of the night setting up during the days leading up to the shower, created amazing butterfly cupcakes, rolled out fondant until their arms felt like they would fall off, and so much more. Thanks to everyone!

And of course, thanks to everyone for their amazing generosity in their gifts. I was so overwhelmed with all that people gave the girls. Car seats, pack 'n' plays, clothes, money, and more! One of our friends, Mandy, even painted the words If, if, if, if, if on plaques for us to hang in the girls' room. For those who don't know what that means, it is what Tim and I said over and over during the month when we couldn't tell anyone about the possibility of us getting the girls. We would say, "If, if, if, if, if we get the girls, then ..." I can't wait to tell the girls about that someday! Now I just need to focus on getting better...

Wow! I remember that time leading up to leaving. We only had 3 weeks after our referral to travel and it was the busiest and best three weeks. Enjoy your time in Colombia. It is priceless. Where are you staying? I could maybe give you some ideas on what to do and where to go. We just loved Colombia. I am sure you will also. Looking forward to following your journey to your little girls.
ReplyDeleteDonna - We are staying in Monteria. Is that where you were?
ReplyDeleteNo we stayed in Bogota, however our ICBF office was in 3 hours away. We stayed at Hotel Paris which was close walking distance to many stores and parks.
